Worth knowing

Watch for crowds, rocks at the point, pollution after rain.

Best from June to September.

Surfrider Beach, parking on PCH or the pier lot.

Common questions

Is Malibu good for beginners?

On a small day First Point is slow enough to learn on - it is the most famous longboard wave in the world for that reason. The crowd is the difficulty, not the wave.

When does Malibu work?

Summer south swell, June to September, when the point lines up for two hundred yards. On winter north-west swell it is small and the South Bay is the call.

What are First, Second and Third Point?

Three sections of the same point at Surfrider Beach. First is the longest and softest; Third, at the top, is faster and hollower on a bigger swell.

Where do I park for Malibu?

The pier lot or the Pacific Coast Highway shoulder. Both fill by mid-morning on a summer swell.
