Bat Galim is a reef break - the bottom doesn't move, so it breaks in the same place every swell.

Common questions

Is Bat Galim good for beginners?

No. It breaks over a sharp rock reef at the foot of the Carmel, holds the largest swells in Israel, and has a strong current pulling out on a big day. Start on the sandy peaks at The Peak or Hof Maxim to the south.

When is Bat Galim at its best?

A large north-west swell with light or south-east (offshore) wind, mostly December to February. On that day the whole north of the country is in the water.

What is the difference between Bat Galim and Backdoor?

The same reef, a different section. Backdoor is shallower and hollower when a north-west swell lines it up and is expert territory; Bat Galim is longer, more forgiving, and works more days a season.

Do you need a wetsuit at Bat Galim?

In winter, yes: a 3/2 from December to March, with the water around 17°C. October, November and April are spring-suit months.
